Adobe and Apple. Mobile Web Apps. The way to go.

Apple Vs. Adobe - no iPhone apps from Flash CS5

We’re looking forward to Adobe’s CS5 suite release despite the new developer clause for Apple’s iPhone SDK 4.0 which bans apps created with private APIs and third party translation compliers… most notably Adobe’s new Flash CS5.

While we’re a little taken aback at the growing rift between Adobe and Apple (having years of experience as designers and web developers, both companies are to us, synonymous as the platform to work on and design software to choose), we’re sure Apple is doing what it sees best for its mobile platform and we know that Adobe’s CS5 suite has plenty more uses than just being a “Flash to iPhone” translation compiler. (Though yes, we’re sad — OK really irritated — that Apple’s making it harder for desing and web professionals to leverage existing collateral for projects expanding out onto mobile platforms)

No worries for us though. We’re up to speed on the SDK and more importantly, we’re pros at creating dynamic, mobile web applications for WebKit based browsers, such as Mobile Safari and Android’s Mobile Browser.

Adobe’s Flash’s software isn’t going anywhere, but we do see how the the future of the Flash Player as an embedded plugin is definitely changing in the newly emerging and exciting landscape of the web.

With the robust features of JavaScript enhanced HTML5 and CSS3 are coming to more and more browsers, both desktop and mobile, the need for dynamic content, applications and games to live, locked inside a compiled player plugin is ending. Adobe’s making strides in ensuring their creative suites accommodate the web’s changing needs while evolving their intuitive and powerful design and development tools they’ve been providing for nearly two decades.

We’ve always advocated using the Flash player appropriately, leveraging its strengths, serving up compliant and accessible sites and applications. Feel free to get in touch with us about how we can help your project emerge, ready to scale and transform in this new and changing landscape of high-bandwidth mobile and desktop connectivity. (We play well with others, especially your Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash collateral)

30 days w/out Adobe: Missing reasons and days?

March 19th, 2009

Twitter is having, um, issues. They claim they are being worked on. I mean really. It’s like they think it’s a FREE service or something… taking their time to fix DB problems… sheesh.

Luckily, provided it doesn’t time out, you can check out my “30 days w/out Adobe” experiment using their search feature. (thank goodness I decided to title the tweets!)

You can also just follow me in general (especially if you’re into web design, toddler rearing rants and disgustingly sweet tmi blips about my life partner, our life together and other micro-bellybutton-gazings)

(p.s., the tweets are coming over to my fB status just fine so those of you ahem, “lucky enough” to be in my awesome fB posse, aren’t missing a thing)
